SRTPC is an independent public-private
partnership initiative for research and development, capacity
building to leverage technology for rural development. It was formed
vide a government notification in June 1999 with the aim of
promotion of technology for development in rural areas. It also aims
at technology transfer activities in Information and Communication
Technologies (ICT) with special emphasis on the community
empowerment through awareness generation campaigns, preparation of
information materials, youth leadership, and self-help groups for
training on ICT.
Since its establishment, SRTPC has managed to put in place a
reliable research team at the Centre for Education Technology at
National Institute of Technology (Deemed University), Silchar, with
adequate computer facilities and other logistics. The other
technical support base will come from the private sector entities
such as Royal Telenet PLC, India .
