Country Gateway Support
Effective development in any country, city or village requires local
participation and local skills development. The Development Gateway
Foundation has helped establish a network pf nearly 50 Country
Gateways—locally owned entities that deliver Web-related services
for local and national development needs.
DGF provided seed funding to most of them, as well as software
technology to those that needed it. We continue to provide strategic
and technical assistance as they grow, prosper and become
financially independent.
Common Goals
Each Country Gateway organization is different but they all share
DGF’s mission, vision and partnership approach. Through their Web
sites and other initiatives, they aim to:
Promote knowledge-sharing and transparency in government, business
and all aspects of development
Support enterprise, civil society and social entrepreneurship
Strengthen local and national capacity in the application of
information and communications technologies (ICT) for effective
development.
Serving Local Needs
Country Gateways provide a growing range of Web-based services for
e-government, small enterprise support, e-learning, e-health, online
community-building and more. Increasingly, they are providing
offline services as well, such as consulting, Web site design,
hosting and implementation, application service provision, project
management and e-procurement activities.
