The South Asian Regional Gateway is
initially proposed by the State Rural Technology Promotion Council,
Assam, India (SRTPC) based on preliminary discussions at the
Development Gateway Forum 2005 in Beijing and later correspondence
with the Development Gateway Foundation. However, the initiative is
envisaged as a regional programme and independent from any
administrative or political intervention from the government of
India. It is proposed that the initiative is incorporated as an
autonomous organisation managed and advised by a joint Steering
Committee that with include the primary partners, ie, the Country
Development Gateways and funding agencies. With a proposed initial
budgetary, technical, and administrative support from the SRTPC,
India it is recommended that the SRTPC will be initially involved in
the initiative as a think-tank along with other development
partners, governments, civil society and the private sector and hand
over the management to the independent regional entity with the
incorporation of the SRADEG.
With the formal launching of the SARDEG with resources drawn from
SRTPC, the Development Gateway Foundation and other partners, it
shall incorporate the project as an autonomous legal entity separate
from the auspices of the SRTPC whatsoever.
